In August 1994 Malcolm, Barbara & Greg Johnson purchased a 14-acre tract of land in Townsend, TN with the intention of building a family-oriented campground.
This property is a level tract of land fronted by Little River and surrounded by mountain ranges. The property was part of a large farm, thus the name Big Meadow was an accurate description and adapted as the name.
“Our family has camped since 1974 and found camping to be a very enjoyable and family-oriented affair. We decided in 1988 to try to purchase either an existing campground or to develop our own.”
