This segment starts and ends at Thunderhead Harley-Davidson, Kodak, TN.
Perfect, that’s how we describe this mix of curved paved and unpaved roads that wind through East Tennessee and North Carolina. You will depart Thunderhead Harley-Davidson and warm up on many of the twisty paved roads that Kodak Tennessee has to offer. Before you leave Tennessee for North Carolina you will enjoy the gem of the eastern border, route 32 out of Cosby. There is not a road anywhere that provides more enjoyment for the motorcycle enthusiast than the 14 miles of twists and turns on Route 32. But the pavement ends at the North Carolina boarder and a surprise awaits. At the boarder between the two states Route 32 turns to dirt and the Appalachian trail crosses the road. Stop and get a picture of the trail signs before you move on. We then wind through west NC finding some of the many dirt roads, up and down mountains. The dirt challenge of NC is Brown Gap and Max Patch roads, both are well maintained gravel roads that have many changes in surface to keep you challenged. Make sure you stop at the Max Patch overlook and enjoy the mountain views offered there. Soon you will find yourself back on winding paved roads back to Thunderhead Harley-Davidson, stop in and say hi.
Note: Drive times rely on road conditions, closures, and speed on dirt roads. Your drive time will vary based on these factors. Due to road closures, the map may be briefly changed, but the turn-by-turn instructions remain accurate.
